Behind the Poster: The Black Crowes "Est. 1984 - USA"

The Black Crowes are one of the greatest American rock and roll bands in history. When the Crowes release their 5x platinum debut album Shake Your Money Maker in 1990, Rich Robinson was only 21 years old and Chris Robinson was only 24! Despite their youthfulness they performed with old soul, as though they had been doing it for 50 years. So with that in mind, when creating our first print for the Crowes we wanted to illustrate that balance of youthful energy and old soul, and of course utilize that iconic Crowes logo:

The two-headed crow is meant to symbolize the two Robinson brothers, who have been the only constant members of the band since it's formation in 1984. I spent some time researching the band's art through its history and it has always struck a balance between hippy psychedelia and an aesthetic more serious and sincere. I think the band's music often walks that line as well, and I've tried to capture that feeling in this print. The Black Crowes have had many artists I admire contribute to its visual archive and I'm honored to be among them! - Paul Kreizenbeck
