Celebrated as the "greatest singer of her generation," Whitney Houston's accomplishments in music were unparalleled. With over 200 million combined album, singles and videos sold worldwide during her career, Whitney Houston has established a benchmark for superstardom that will quite simply never be eclipsed in the modern era. She is a singer’s singer who has influenced countless other vocalists female and male.
Music historians cite Whitney as the most awarded female artist of all time including multiple GRAMMY and American Music Awards. Her record-setting achievements include being the only artist to chart seven consecutive #1 Billboard Hot 100 hits; the first female artist to enter the Billboard 200 album chart at #1; and one of a select number of solo artists with eight consecutive multi-platinum albums.
On November 7th, Whitney added another accolade to her list of achievements: Hall of Famer. We're incredibly honored to have partnered with Whitney's team to commemorate her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with a portion of the proceeds of sales going to benefit her charity, The Whitney Houston Foundation!
For such an important project, we turned to an artist who's a legend in her own right, Tracie Ching. In her signature style, Tracie beautifully illustrated a rare photograph of Whitney taken by famed photographer Richard Avedon in 1985.
“When I think about Whitney Houston the first thing that comes to mind is her brilliance. Whitney’s achievements, her voice, her smile - utterly brilliant. In celebration of her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame I wanted to encapsulate a piece of the color and beauty this iconic woman gave to the world. A token for a star that continues to shine on.” - Tracie Ching
