The Black Crowes The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion

The Black Crowes The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion

AVAILABLE NOW

Thirty years ago on May 12, 1992 the Black Crowes released their second album, The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion. The sophomore album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200  and featured the hits '“Remedy”', “'Thorn In My Pride' and 'Sting Me'. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of this iconic album, we're releasing a new limited edition double-sided screenprint by Nathaniel Deas! And, it's a companion to his Three Snakes and One Charm poster and tapestry from 2021.

"Working with The Black Crowes again is a dream come true, and commemorating this classic album was truly an honor. One of the main themes of “The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion,” in my opinion, is a battle between light and dark, and my overall goal with this poster was to illustrate this theme.

Bookending a “bad luck blue eye,” an angel and a devil (referring to "Thorn In My Pride”) look down upon the design, which is split into two different scenes…one dark and one light: A black moon is creeping in the sky within the interior circle, while a sunset scene (based on the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta) sheds light on some small details and lyrical references to multiple songs incorporated throughout the design. The sycamore tree that the crows are perched on is a reference to the band’s cover of "Time Will Tell” - which lyrically closes out the album’s “light versus dark” theme: “you think you're in heaven but you're living in hell."- Nathaniel Deas
