You Are Strong (2022) by Tara McPherson

In June, 2018 we released the art print titled “You Are Strong” by Tara McPherson as part of a charitable series in which we collaborated with artists on illustrations inspired by lyrics, and then donated the profits from the release to the charity of the artists’ choice. Inspired by the lyrics of Pearl Jam’s anthem “Why Go”, You Are Strong is an illustration that resonated with everyone for its incredible message of strength and resilience. It even made several cameos on HBO’s Succession. Through its sales, we raised a lot of money for a very worth charity (Tara’s choice was Planned Parenthood). 

In response to the war being waged against women's choice to determine their reproductive health by numerous States here in the US, and with Roe v. Wade in serious jeopardy, we discussed with Tara releasing an updated version of You Are Strong to raise more money for Planned Parenthood, and proudly present four new color ways of You Are Strong (2022) that will be released on International Women’s Day, March 8th at 2pm (EST):

"After reading the lyrics I was taken with the character's strength in fighting the system and the status quo. I feel she is an icon of strength, and I wanted to illustrate her independent spirit. I see parallels between scratching letters into walls and tattooing words across your chest. There is also this alternate universe hinted at through the heart shaped hole in her chest, creating a sort of portal to an alternate dimension, maybe where one’s mind would go when trapped in an isolated place. I chose Planned Parenthood as my charity because they fight the good fight for women's health and reproductive rights. The title is a reminder, a mantra, for women everywhere going through any rough spot that life throws at you... YOU ARE STRONG.” -Tara McPherson

Additionally, like the rest of the world, we are horrified by the senseless war being waged against Ukraine, and will be splitting the profits of "You Are Strong" to be donated to UNICEF.
